Westport Planning Board vows to revisit solar energy

The bylaw required a two-thirds majority to pass."We'll be taking it back to the next meeting," Planning Board Member Elaine Ostroff said. "We'll be coming back in the spring."While the rejected bylaw may receive some tweaking, it probably won't take on a radically different form, Ostroff said."We'll be working on correcting some of the misinformation that was out there," she said.Ostroff said one of the reasons the solar energy by law failed to pass was strategic. There wasn't much discussion of the bylaw at special Town Meeting. While Ostroff did not expect the bylaw to be hugely revised and, while the Planning Board held informational meetings prior to Town Meeting, Ostroff said "We'll definitely be holding more meetings."Ostroff said the Planning Board has and will continue to work closely with the energy committee in refining and presenting the solar energy bylaw.Optical frameAnd, Ostroff remains convinced that the bylaw is vital for a town that does not have any zoning specific to solar energy facilities."Without it, based on state law, a large scale solar development could be put anywhere in town," Ostroff said.Countries like Brazil represent emerging markets and are considered to be important to the overall progress of renewable energy. If these countries can find economic success in the adoption of alternative energy systems, larger countries are likely to see the same benefits in their own plans.
