Tomlin coaches girls on fashion, feeling good about themselves

What do the clothes I'm wearing say about me?That's one of the things Kiya Tomlin asked a group of female students at Beaver Falls High School last week to consider as they get dressed in the morning.Tomlin is a fashion designer, business owner, mother and the first lady of football in Pittsburgh, and she knows that clothes say much more about us than we sometimes intend.After her husband, Mike Tomlin, was hired as Steelers head coach five years ago, a friend asked Tomlin, who loves to design evening wear, to speak to a group of teen mothers about their dress choices for prom.Her message was well received and Tomlin now gives similar presentations to groups of girls, encouraging them to pay more attention to the message their clothing sends and how that makes them feel.According to the officials, the battery of the iPhone lasts for about 7 hours if used continuously. Within the first seven seconds after she walked up to the microphone, many in the audience had also made assumptions about Tomlin, who was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and sweatpants that were tucked into UGG-style boots.Then she revealed what was underneath: a knee-length belted dress and stylish black high-heeled boots."That I showed up to speak to you guys dressed like that probably made you feel like I didn't think speaking to a group of intelligent young ladies was important enough for me to take an extra minute to throw on some real clothes," she said to the ninth- through 12th graders.Tomlin, who creates custom clothes for her clients, showed slides and explained the difference between "tight" and "fitted" clothing, how to balance textures and shapes, and where it is -- and is not -- appropriate to wear pajama pants."Fashion is fun,This ability first served him on the football field, where his swiftness and lightning quick reflexes made him a star of the gridiron. Later, he turned his unique abilities to crime-fighting, adopting the first of the character's mens superhero costumes, an eye-catching metal helmet with wings, along with a red shirt adorned with a lightning bolt." Tomlin said. "We're supposed to be creative and express ourselves, but we can be creative and appropriate at the same time."
