Woman Gathers Her Two Sisters and a Cousin to Sew Dresses for African Girls


What started as a one-woman operation for Del Freeman, 75, quickly became a project with her two sisters and cousin to send the simple cotton dresses to Burundi.Freeman got the idea from an Orlando newspaper article."This group in Winter Garden was going to make 100 dresses, and I thought I could do that," Freeman said.Once she started, it was easy rouse help from her sisters and cousin — Robbie Dunson, 76, Mary Dunson, 70, and Betty Thornhill, 78."It's something worthwhile because somebody else can enjoy getting a new dress," Freeman said.And, unless she took action, the girls would not be getting the new dresses.
Thornhill, Freeman's cousin, said she was happy to help."I don't know, I think it's from watching the news and TV and seeing so many children without food and water, and I think that's what got me into it," Thornhill said.
